BOOBS AREN'T SEXY

I love boobs. I think they’re glorious. I’d even go as far as to call them hella sexy but since nothing is just one thing I wouldn’t be lying if I said boobs aren’t sexy. Moving past the clickbait title, what I mean is that boobs aren’t just sexy.

Creationists and Evolunionists alike can agree that boobs have their function in procreation. I’m not disputing the many ways in which they’re not needed for the human race to continue existing, especially with modern medicine. I recognize the primal reaction they elicit and acknowledge their magical properties. Where I think we’re running into a spot of bother is when boobs are sexualized.

I can think of three examples where differentiating might serve to elevate us beyond our caveman reactions: Breastfeeding. Topless sunbathing. Breast cancer.

I’m referring specifically to the exposed breasts, not the carriers of these magnificent mammaries. Women are beautiful/sexy/attractive with or without lady lumps. My objection lies with society and more specifically social media’s fetishizing of these milk-secreting, sometimes-cancer-carrying fun bags.

By removing all images that contain female nipples, or expecting women to cover up - regardless of the context - you send a very specific message about the value of the female body and who owns it.

My rage levels reach Hulk proportions when a set of rules tries to determine my worth, especially under the guise of Community Guidelines. This begs further investigation into the agenda of these self-appointed elders and exactly what Community they’re trying to foster. If I had a child I would much prefer them seeing the plethora of chesticles out there rather than the one-dimensional representation that makes it past the censor button. Maybe that’s because I welcome discussion and an opportunity to connect with others. I find diversity interesting, not threatening.
